What happens during the creative process of painting? When Dan paints a landscape or seascape, he is having a relationship with the universe, with nature, and is totally immersed in the creative process.

Painting, as in writing, is a solitary experience. At times, the artist can be completely in solitude–alone in the woods or on a beach. Alone with the canvas, paints, brushes and alone with his thoughts. When groups get together to paint, there is peace and quiet, and it seems all you hear are the brush strokes. They are concentrating on their task at hand–perhaps catching the last rays of light to put on their canvas. They can be quite a chatty bunch when they have finished, but until then deep concentration–totally absorbed in their composition. Dan paints with the hope that the viewer feels as if they can enter into his art, and become part of the landscape. “Nature is his Muse”.

“Discovery” is on view/for sale at the Gilded Lily in Milford, Connecticut. There is going to be a “Meet and Greet” at the Gilded Lily Gallery.

“I really don’t know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it’s because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it’s because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came.
