Hello everyone, Believe this should be the last winter painting of this season-2013. I am hearing that there is another winter storm on the way, but thoughts of Spring and April Showers bringing May Flowers is in everyone’s head. Winter does have a bit of magic to it, and the light is fantastic to paint. Andrew Wyeth did have something interesting to say about painting winter scenes: “I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape. Something waits beneath it; the whole story doesn’t show.” Andrew Wyeth
The photograph of Elizabeth Park in Winter showed up on our Facebook Page-the Executive Director of the Conservatory was driving into the park on this very snowy, stormy day and just loved how the park was looking and captured it with her camera. I contacted her and asked permission if Dan could use the photograph as a subject matter for one of his oil paintings. She very graciously agreed and we were off creating or I should say Dan was off to create. He changed the photograph a smidge because he wanted to enhance his composition. Artists do that, and he is no exception to that rule.
Dan entered this painting into a juried show at the Lyme Art Association’s Show “On Holiday: The Artist Travels” and this show runs from March 1st to April 20th, 2013. The Association/Gallery is at 90 Lyme St, Old Lyme, CT 06371. Ph:860.434.7802. We were very excited about this painting being accepted. If you are in the area, please stop in and enjoy the artwork. It is a beautiful gallery located in a very historic, New England town.
Take care,
Dan (the artist) and Nancy (the blogger)
