“Pumpkin Patch” is an original oil painting by Daniel S. Dahlstrom, and was produced last September after our discovery of this awesome field.  We were out for a drive, heading toward the Chester Ferry, on a beautiful late summer afternoon and came upon the pumpkin patch growing  near the Connecticut River-not too far away from the ferry. Dan had his camera, as usual-the just in case we come upon a scene to paint-and away he went happily photographing. This was not going to be an “en plein air” piece but rather one that would be worked from a photograph. What a typical New England vista-pumpkins, as far as the eye could see. We wondered about the farmer growing all these pumpkins, and I wondered how the farmer would feel about the artist running around his field. But all worked out-we had a lovely ferry ride on the Connecticut River, and Dan was already creating his composition in his head. He started the minute we got home-he wanted to capture the essence of the field while it was still fresh in his mind, in his hands, and still inhaling the scent of the field and the coming fall.
